As we embark on 2014 together and reevaluate where our lives are going and where we want them to go, I invite you to read this post about balance in the life of an artist. It’s written by Demetrius Spaneas, a New York-based composer and saxophonist.

There are many ideas in this post with which I resonate, such as the concept that struggle isn’t a bad thing. It’s supposed to be difficult to create art, and in many ways, that struggle is what makes the art better.

To me, this sums up the difficulty and also the goal:

“The finding of balance to create time within the realistic confines of life to pursue one’s creative endeavors.”

What do you think? How do you find balance in your life? How do you address this struggle, and how does it benefit your art?
