Third Wheel is pleased to announce that we are 2010 recipients of a Seed Money Grant from New York Women Composers. In a wonderful cross-country connection, we will be able to perform a concert on the West Coast featuring the music of some of the East Coast’s most talented living composers. Who also happen to be women. What a great opportunity!

New York composers meet LA musicians ... we can't wait to see what happens!

We are currently in the midst of completing a “score call” that was sent out to all the NYWC members. Those composers are sending us music they have written for some combination resembling Third Wheel’s instrumentation, and in a few weeks we’re going to have a reading party to play through all of the music so that we can decide which pieces we will perform.

Once all of the difficult decisions are made, we will put the music together into a concert (date and location still TBA). Judging by the music I have seen come in so far, you are all in for a treat! Being part of this grant program is really allowing us to take a step outside the box of the music that we normally perform, and might even require the use of some very special guest artists. Plus, we get to work with new composers! And we love new composers!

So, stay tuned for a lot more big news — very soon, we will announce the composers and pieces chosen for our grant project, and then of course the big concert where we will perform all this great music!
