One of the things that I enjoy so much about playing with Third Wheel is the variety of music we program.  We play music from Bach to the Beatles and even some Brazilian Choros.  I also appreciate the contact we have with local living composers.  In fact. I just ran into Jenni Brandon at a Yoga class in Long Beach.  In the past year I’ve had the opportunity to branch out and play in another type of group that includes guitar, bass and percussion.  It has been a blast and again gives me the opportunity to play non-traditional concert music.  Last week we played in Ventura at Perano’s to kick-off the release of Tony Ybarra’s new CD “Fiesta”.  We played arrangements of  Chick Corea’s “La Fiesta”, Piazzolla’s “Libertango”, and “Stairway to Heaven”!

Tony Ybarra, guitar; Mike Valasquez, bass; Rebecca Rivera, bassoon; Mike Valasquez, cajon

Replace the pan flutes with bassoon and add a bit of Spanish flair and you have a cool take on a classic.  You can check out Tony’s arrangement of “Stairway to Heaven” below:
